IT Transformation -What should it mean for you?
IT Transformation is a bit of a buzzword, intended to describe the transition from doing things the analogue way to doing this digitally. So instead of writing letters, we now send emails and so forth.
Most businesses in Australia should be going through an IT Transformation. Those emails we are sending now can be automated, targeted and tracked using CRM software. There is virtually no limit on how we can transform and improve any analogue activity we used to do in business.
Why would you bother with IT Transformation?
1. To survive!
- Your competitors are increasingly investing in technology to reduce their costs, do things better, faster and more accurately. No matter what your business is, I guarantee I can pinpoint something you can improve. Try me 😛
- To keep up with customer’s expectations! As your clients become more familiar with the technology, their expectations are changing accordingly. A three day turn around to answer a query via email is no longer acceptable – they are used to seeing instant chatbots on most websites
2. To innovate!
Ah, what a time to be alive and in business! Especially in small business – you are small, agile and in touch with your customers. You know exactly what they want and it does not take you three AGMs to implement it. You can make a significant positive contribution to your industry, the power (pun intended) is in your hands. I sincerely hope that you are always looking for ways you can improve and grow your business every day.
“Yes, but where do I start?”
Well, firstly you ask where your industry is going – who is winning in the market and why. If no one is really winning – that’s great, more room for you. Then you would ask – what do your customers want. If you’re anything like me, you should be able to pick up the phone and call one of your clients and ask “Hey, Bruce, what can we do better for you?”.
Based on that, set some business objectives – what will you do to better your services and reduce costs? Forget IT Transformation, this is now Business Transformation! You now have a clear plan of where technology should take you – you are not being sold various techy gimmicks by guys working on commission.
It’s an exciting time to be in business, and I hope you are no longer afraid of IT Transformation.
